1. If you are on anticoagulants or 'blood thinners' then you should be discontinued 5 days prior to the procedure. Alcohol intake, smoking is prohibited at least a week before surgery, as this may interfere in the healing process and graft uptake may be hampered.
2. Hair oils are to be discontinued, but shampoos can be used regularly.
3. Hair present on the head should not to be trimmed and one should not shave for 2-3 days prior to the surgery, suggested by the best hair transplant surgeon in Kolkata.
4. And lastly, on the day of surgery, if one is on medications for any disease such as Diabetes, Blood Pressure or Thyroid disorders, medicines must be taken as per the daily routine. And one must have a good and proper breakfast and most importantly, be mentally relaxed in preparation for the surgery.
5. After the surgery, avoid sleeping prone, so that pressure is not put on the implanted grafts, to prevent them from getting damaged. Avoid touching or fiddling with the transplanted grafts and also take care that your head does not bump into any object, wall or car.
6. A saline spray bottle will be provided, which has to be sprayed on the transplanted area at 2-3 hourly intervals for 5-7 days after the surgery.
7. Antibiotic ointment can be applied to the donor area after cleaning with sterile water.
8. A loose surgical cap can be worn on the head or preferably, if at home, don’t wear anything on the head. While sleeping, remove the cap from the head.
9. Normal activity can be resumed from the next day itself but heavy physical activity should be avoided for at least 7 days.
